As It Is: A Year In Review
2018 has easily been As It Is’ biggest year yet. From their best received album to the biggest headline shows of their career, nothing has stopped the band this year. CelebMix looks back at the amazing year As It Is have had.
Before the new era of As It Is started in 2018, they headed out on the Okay EU/UK tour, showcasing their second studio album ‘Okay’. As always they put on a fun energetic set of dates, leaving their crowd constantly wanting more.
On the 17th May the music video for the first single from ‘The Great Depression’, titled ‘The Wounded World’, was released, giving fans the first glimpse of the new image and sound. While it was a complete change in direction from their previous albums, it was a punchy hard-hitting tune with a catchy chorus that was well received.
Less than two weeks after this release they gave the fans a chance to see them up close and personal, with some acoustic shows in the style of ‘an evening with’ show which featured both old fan favourites and ‘The Wounded World’. It was a strong set list merging old and new that left fans happy and showed the band in a different light.
The weekend after their intimate tour saw a much larger scale event, with the band headlining the Signature Brew stage, the same stage they opened only a few years ago. Taking to the stage in front of a crowd ready to match the energy of the band, it was a set that was not to be missed.
June saw the release of the music video for ‘The Stigma (Boys Don’t Cry)’, a much softer song compared to ‘The Wounded World’ which looks at society’s view on masculinity.
With the second single released, they headed to America to join the last Warped Tour. Social media was full of praise for the band’s stage presence and how much time they spent with fans.
‘The Wounded World’ was released on the 10thAugust and became their best received album to date.
The start of November saw the band fly to Japan for a co-headlining tour with Set It Off.
The band took part in the “Songs That Saved My Life” compilation album released on 9th November covering ‘Such Great Heights’.
November and December saw the band head out on The Great Depression Tour ending with their largest ever headline show at O2 Kentish Town, where they broke the venue record for the most crowd surfers in one set!
They also won their first award in the Rock Sound Awards, scooping the Power of Music award.
Two last shows finished off an amazing 2018 for As It Is. First off was an acoustic show in London, giving fans a chance to hear stripped back versions of songs from ‘The Great Depression’ in an intimate setting. The band even let a fan open for them after the support dropped out last minute.
Then came a hometown show in Brighton, co-headlining with friends ROAM at Sticky Mikes, where both bands started playing at the beginning of their careers. Sadly the venue is due to shut down soon. Despite being one of the smallest of their 2018 shows, it certainly wasn’t obvious from the crowd’s enthusiasm at getting one last chance to hear some old favourites
With two headline tours and a Europe support slot with Enter Shikari already announced for 2019, it’s clear the band have no plans on slowing down and here at CelebMix we can’t wait to see what’s to come next!
