Kriz was born on December 13, 1983, in Bankstown, New South Wales, Australia, to Mike and Seija Kriz. Up until 1999, she was a student at the Croydon-based Presbyterian Ladies College, Sydney, but left to focus on her tennis career.
Nicole Kriz originates from a sporting family; her father, Mike, played ice hockey and soccer for Czechoslovakia. Nicole’s older sister, Michelle, used to be ranked No. 2 in Australia in figure skating, thus it was almost a foregone conclusion that Nicole would go into sports as a profession.
