Matthew Koons Obituary, A Loving Farewell to Matthew Koons
Matthew Koons Obituary, Death – Koons, Matthew Brian 8 September 1985 – 13 November 2023, On Monday, November 13, 2023, Matthew Brian Koons, a devoted husband, father, son, coach, leader, and friend, went away at his Dayton, Texas, home. Every moment Matthew had off, he was coaching and motivating his teammates to be so much more than just athletes on the field. He frequently attended DYSA work days and made an effort to improve his neighborhood since he was always willing to do whatever needed to be done.
His contagious laugh made even the gloomiest day happier, and he brought out the best in everyone he came into contact with. Nothing made Matthew happier than spending time with his kids and the scout family at camping and HEAT scouting events. From Cub Scout Pinewood Derby races to Eagle Scout project days and all in between, he went to every scouting function. He devoted every Sunday to prayer and meditation on his Lord and Savior. Taking an active part in Christ’s Way Baptist Church brought immeasurable blessings to his life and soul.
He not only became closer to God but also developed relationships with each and every churchgoer, making it a point to greet everyone as they arrived for worship. Robert “Bob” Koons, Matthew’s grandpa, father Brian Koons, and stepfather Ronnie Burns all passed away before him. In addition to his mother Debbe Koons, grandmother Betty “Betty Nana” Colclazier, grandmother Angela Koons, brother Michael Koons, sister Amy Wiskus and husband James, their children Lindsay, Lacey, and Landon; sister Leah Burns and daughter Livy; sister Meghan Parr and husband Preston, their son Jaxxon; great aunt Jan Davis; and numerous other family members and friends.
He is survived by his son Joshua Koons, daughter Cassandra Koons, and their mother Christina Johnson; son Sheridon Graves, daughter Sophie Koons, and their mother Linsey Koons. Pastor Mike Chadwick will conduct services at Sterling Funeral Home, located at 602 N. Main St., Dayton, TX 77535.
