Mollie King releases debut solo single "Back To You"

Publish date: 2024-05-06

This week, after a few teasers, Mollie King released her debut single “Back To You” with a stunning music video.

One fifth of The Saturdays, Mollie King announced she had signed a recording contract back in October, last year.

Since then she has been teasing fans with photos of herself in the studio. Then more recently, a teaser for her debut music video.

After all the waiting “Back To You” has finally been released. Sounding slightly similar to Ellie Goulding’s “On My Mind”, this highly emotional catchy song is full of uplifting beats and a soulful vocal.

Not at all what we were expecting, this song could have easily have been a hit for The Saturdays. Fairly reminiscent of “Missing You”, this powerhouse single is proving to be popular. It was written by Mollie King herself, along with Rob Persaud, Ryan Ogren and Nick Bailey, the last two names make up producing duo The Blueprint.

Singing about a guy who she is always running back to, this song is something we all will be singing when we’ve had an argument with our loved one. Extremely personal, rumours state it could be about her former on/off relationship with model David Gandy.

It’s not only the song that stuns us all though. The music video is visually pleasing and technically brilliant.

Directed by Lisa Gunning, who was involved with the film Fifty Shades of Grey, it doesn’t come as a surprise that the music video is steamy, sexy and sultry.

A stunning performance visual, the video really tested Mollie King’s ability to walk backwards and sing backwards. She exudes confidence and maturity. The entire package is stand-out amazing.

The narrative is engaging and extremely relatable to the song. We’ve all been there, going back to someone we love, or even had a few thoughts of going back. We’ve even tried walking backwards before, who hasn’t?

“Back To You” is not just Mollie King’s debut single, it’s probably the closest we’re going to get to a new single from The Saturdays. Not only because it sounds like something we’d expect The Saturdays to sing; but also because Mollie King is obsessed with all things pop.

Fans were expecting floor-filler anthems and Britney Spears style hits; instead Mollie King has established her own music and her own style as well as her own place in the music world.

The Saturdays are currently on a hiatus, with no plans to reform as of yet. The girls are out enjoying their own things away from the group. Mollie King is not the first to release solo music; Vanessa White dropped an EP back in February called “Chapter One”, under Karma Artist Recordings. Una Healy also released an EP called “Sorry”, before the band got together, and is currently preparing to release new solo music under Decca Records; she is also a coach on The Voice of Ireland. Frankie Bridge has turned to TV presenting, following in the footsteps of Rochelle Humes who has presented Ninja Warrior UK, Children In Need, The Xtra Factor and will be co-presenting The Next Great Magician alongside Stephen Mulhern on ITV.

All five girls consistently talk to one another and all support each other in their solo adventures. They all congratulated Mollie King on her debut single and urged their own fans to take a listen.

LOVE LOVE this song!!! @MollieOfficial everyone go have a listen :) https://t.co/Jp19qAAliS xxx

It’s good to see The Saturdays all pulling together to promote one another. It’s clear that they are all still friends and when they do reform, they’ll be stronger than ever.
