Videos circulating on social media show Newcastle fans being attacked in Paris on Monday night.

One clip appeared to show PSG ultras, all dressed in black with masks, throwing chairs and flares at a pub where Newcastle fans were drinking.

Supporters of the Premier League club are in the French capital for their Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday and were keeping to themselves when set upon.

In the videos, glasses are thrown and windows appeared to be smashed as tensions escalated 24 hours before the all-important European clash.

A Newcastle United Supporters Club social media account on X, formerly Twitter, reposted an image of PSG ultras reportedly looking for Newcastle fans.

They wrote: "Stay safe in Paris tonight. Stick together and look after one another."

French journalist Julien Laurens told talkSPORT: “It’s really sad to see. This game was put in the high risk category by UEFA, so you need more policing and stewarding.

“Yesterday, it was quite clear from social media that PSG ultras, or hooligans, attacked where a lot of Newcastle fans were drinking and just enjoying their evening. There was no provocation.

“It’s really sad and disappointing to see. The security at and around the stadium will be much higher than it was last night. Hopefully there will be no trouble for Newcastle fans."

A spokesperson for the Newcastle United Supporters' Club said: "Corcoran's Boulogne was asked to shut at 10pm by the police. A group of Newcastle fans moved onto Cafe Seguin to continue the night.

"A group of around 30 PSG fans turned up, stood outside, threw a flare and chairs et cetera at the windows and doors. Nobody was majorly hurt and then they left.

"The advice is for everyone to stick together and look after each other."

The scenes will bring back troubling memories for Magpies fans from earlier in the Champions League group stages.

One supporter was stabbed in Milan prior to their clash with AC Milan.

Newcastle are currently bottom of the group and will likely need to win to keep their hopes of progressing alive.

The match in Paris will be live on talkSPORT with kick-off at 8pm.
